Would you like to showcase the fine china in your kitchen cabinets this Thanksgiving? An impressive tablescape provides the ultimate backdrop for your plates, serving dishes and glassware and adds a festive touch to the holiday meal. Here are three ways to add drama to your Thanksgiving table.

Set the Ultimate Harvest Table

Bounty from the autumn harvest created the perfect tablescape when the Indians and Pilgrims gathered for the first Thanksgiving in 1621. Take your cue from the Pilgrims and design a tablescape that incorporates a selection of artfully arranged fall vegetables. Fill a low wicker basket or wooden tray with pumpkins, colorful squash, apples, pears, turnips and other colorful fall vegetables. For a little contrast, add a few ferns or other greenery.

Arrange a line of small pumpkins, winter squash or gourds down the center of the table on a bed of fall leaves. Although real leaves provide an authentic touch, the leaves can crumble and bring unwelcome multi-legged visitors into your home. Stop by a crafts store and buy artificial leaves instead.

Create one-of-kind napkin holders by hot gluing the tops of acorns on to wooden napkin rings. Slip them around Thanksgiving-themed napkins and place them next to pumpkin- or leaf-shaped serving dishes in bold fall colors to complete the theme.

Use Seasonal Colors to Design an Impressive Fall Tablescape

Believe it or not, it’s possible to create a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape without one pumpkin, acorn or leaf. Rather than relying on nature, use orange, yellow and red, the colors you see when you look at the trees outside your windows, to create a colorful table that’s sure to bring a smile to the faces of your guests.

Set each place with red napkins and fill vases with a selection of red, orange and yellow flowers and weave colored sashes around the backs of your dining room chairs. Brightly colored candles, napkin rings and serving dishes can also be used to add color to the table. Avoid color overload by setting the table with white plates and bowls.

Add a Touch of Elegance with a Cool, Sophisticated Tablescape

Looking for a more subtle Thanksgiving tablescape? Cover everything with a coat of white. Spray paint acorns white or silver and place them in hurricane candle holders under thick pillar candles. Intersperse the candles among small white pumpkins or gourds in the center of the table or place the arrangement on a buffet or sideboard.

If you can’t find white pumpkins, use a few coats of paint to turn classic orange pumpkins into elegant centerpiece decorations. Spray paint can also be used to transform gourds, pinecones, berries and other items. White china, crystal goblets and your best silver add an elegant touch to your cool white tablescape.
