Kitchen Remodel Opens to Nature in Sewickley Heights

In past years this Sewickley Heights home owner had tapped the design-build expertise of Master Remodelers for a new master bath and patio in this home; in a previous home for a foyer and powder room addition. Now the couple decided to take on a kitchen remodel and create an open floor plan from three separate spaces. Two walls came down to create one 680 sq. ft. open space from three previous rooms. Similarly, for the master bath in 2013, four spaces were combined to create one master bath suite.

This kitchen remodel features views of a wooded landscape.

For both projects beautiful large windows now frame picturesque views of their wooded landscape—a top objective for this couple.

The photo below shows the three areas of the new space—kitchen, breakfast area (right) and sitting area (far center). Notice also the dramatic pitched ceiling design over the breakfast room, a design that required ceiling modifications to accommodate the new range hood.

Below, rift sawn red oak custom cabinetry and mahogany floors bring rich color and warmth to the kitchen. Instead of stainless, an oak door panel on the 48” refrigerator continues the warmth on the far cabinet wall. A closer look reveals the LED recessed lighting and under counter task lights.

A closer look at the island below reveals the rich colors and marble-like swirls of the Golden Lighting Granite countertops. Note also the small door under the countertop that hides an electrical outlet for a variety of appliances. In the background, the client preferred two Wolf ovens rather than a double oven.

Below, the view from the sitting area where 2 walls were removed to create the open space plan.

Finally, below is a closer look at the porcelain tile backsplash. Notice also the apron sink, which is 1” below the counter surface—a preference for the client—and under cabinet LED lighting, an element of the overall lighting design for the space.
